The Grumpy Cook Mission, Vision, and Objectives

Mission Statement:

The Grumpy Cook is dedicated to providing food to people that need it most only without the stigma of visiting a food bank. 

Our mission is to establish our cafe that serves as a genuine community hub for those that need it most in a town that's the 14th most deprived town in the Country. 

We are committed to supporting those facing adversity, whether through hunger, experiencing loneliness in old age, or simply day-to-day financial struggles, by providing them with nourishing meals and a sense of belonging.

Vision:

At The Grumpy Cook, we envision a future where everyone has access to warm meals and a secure space for social interaction. We aspire to be recognised as the cafe where all are welcome, regardless of their ability to pay for meals, all while maintaining an unwavering commitment to serving high-quality food.

Objectives:

Operating from our cafe in Hastings, our objectives are centred around the well-being of the individuals we encounter daily. We aim to:

1. Fight Food Poverty: Provide nutritious meals to those in need, addressing food insecurity in our communities.
2. Combat Loneliness, Especially in the Over 65’s - Create a welcoming environment that fosters social interaction, with a special focus on addressing loneliness among the elderly.
3. Help Fulfil the Shortage in Hospitality Staff - Address the shortage in hospitality staff by providing training opportunities for the unemployed, focusing on both front-of-house and kitchen skills.
4. Provide a Safe Space for Men to Discuss their Mental Health - The Grumpy Men's Club focuses on Men's Mental Health. The Grumpy Cook works with Mr Men's Room Hastings & St Leonards to provide a safe space where men can get a free meal, good conversation and encouragement without fear or ridicule
