Hospitality training course

Front of House Training for Cafe Staff

This course takes place at our Robertson Street Cafe in Hastings. We are looking to replicate this in Milton Keynes in 2024!  


6 weeks 

Course Overview:

Week 1-2: Introduction to Cafe Operations

Module 1: Cafe Orientation

· Tour of the cafe, understanding layout.

· Introduction to the team and roles.

· Discussion on the importance of customer service.


Module 2: Food Hygiene and Safety

· Basics of food safety and hygiene.

· Hands-on training on food handling and storage.

· Introduction to the kitchen and its functions.

· Health and safety procedures.


Week 3: Allergens and Special Dietary Requirements

Module 3: Allergen Awareness

· Identification of common allergens.

· How to handle allergen-related requests.

· Precautions to prevent cross-contamination.


Week 4: Customer Interaction and Service Excellence

Module 4: Customer Service Skills

· Effective communication with customers.

· Handling difficult situations and complaints.

· Building positive customer relationships.


Week 5: Cafe Operations and Point of Sale Systems

Module 5: Electronic Till Training

· How to use the electronic point of sale (POS) system.

· Processing orders, payments, and issuing receipts.

· Handling cash and card payments securely.


Week 6: Barista Training and Certification

-Module 6: Barista Skills

· Espresso machine operation.

· Brewing techniques for various coffee types.

· Latte art basics.

· Coffee presentation and service.

Final Assessment and Certification

Module 7: Food Hygiene Certification Level 2

· Preparation for the Food Hygiene Certification Level 2 exam.

· Mock exam and practice questions.

· Official Food Hygiene Certification Level 2 exam.


Additional Details:

· Each module includes a combination of theory and practical training.

· Weekly quizzes and assignments to reinforce learning.

· Regular feedback and performance evaluations.

· Experienced cafe staff and to conduct the training.

· Access to training materials and resources.

· Potential job placement or internship opportunities in local cafes upon course completion.


By the end of this course, participants will have gained valuable skills and knowledge in cafe operations, food hygiene, customer service, and barista skills. They will also leave with a Food Hygiene Certification Level 2, enhancing their employability in the hospitality industry within Hastings.
