Hungry for Change

Dignity Should Never Be Optional

Food banks were created an emergency response. They were never meant to become permanent.

In the 6th richest country in the world, relying on charity to feed families is a sign something is broken.

The volunteers at food banks do extraordinary work, only compassion should not replace solutions, and dignity should never be optional.

Until food banks are no longer needed, we must change the model.

Help should be stigma free, choice based, and part of everyday life - eating in cafes, cooking at home and shopping like everyone else.

That means moving from donation bins to Pay it Forward Meals & Pay it Forward Ingredients, and partnerships between cafes, supermarkets, businesses and government that put dignity first.

This isn't about doing less, it's about doing better and building a system we no longer need to apologise for.
