Breakfast, lunch or dinner; people that need a hot meal will be able come to us any day of the week
Inviting elderly people into the cafe and providing them with a hot drink, cake and most importantly, a conversation
Young people can come to us and enjoy a study space with fast internet connection, so they're able to do their homework
The cost of living crisis is forcing families to choose between heating and eating.
Food banks can help, but what happens when you can’t afford the energy needed to cook the food?
This is where Table88 comes in.
We are providing disadvantaged people with cooked meals for free.
Operating under 'The Grumpy Cook' branding, It's not set up like a food bank - we look like any other cafe. We are driven by the belief that in one of the richest countries in the world no one should go hungry, and there certainly shouldn't be a stigma around those who are struggling to put food on the table. Everyone should be able to walk into a cafe and order a decent meal, and we want to make sure that everyone can.
Not only that, we are working to create a true community hub within the cafe. Elderly people who might only go out once a week for their food shop will be invited in for a hot drink, some cake and a chat. Teenagers, who may have to choose between being in an unstable home or out on the streets, can come inside to do their homework, with a fast internet connection and computer access (coming in Spring 2024).
All of this will be completely free of charge for those that need it. But we need funding from local partners to be able to make this happen
